June 9 Report

Tuesday

Click for MapAnother nearly perfect day as far as the weather is concerned. Cool, sunny and tailwinds. Those things along with some spectacular scenery makes for smiling bicycle riders. The routes of the Amusing and the Krazy joined at Dorrance for a sight seeing trip through one of the most pretty scenic areas in Kansas, That is the few miles of road that runs along the south side of Lake Wilson. I talked some of the riders into an off course excursion to a big hill. One young lady didn't think she was interested but when her group decided to try it I suggested that she didn't have to go to the bottom and then climb back up. Later when I returned she had just returned from a victorious trip to the bottom and then climbed back up "without stopping." She was all smiles and was well on the way to a perfect day. I also noticed that most of the riders that went on the prescribed route had really smiley faces. I think that they had a sense of accomplishment and knew that what ever came to them on the rest of the trip would be minor compared to what they had done today.

I went to Wilson for lunch with the Krazy route. It seemed that most of the Krazy riders decided to shortcut the Lake Wilson area and so they missed the treat. That also made their day quite short. We did cross the 1/2 way point today. Tonight I am in Ellsworth with the Krazy route. Norma is with the Bubbly route in Beloit and Sherry is in Lincoln with the Amusing route. This is my first visit with this group so I expect there will be a lot of tales.

The e-mail is really pouring in, last night I downloaded and printed 149 pieces of e-mail. And there is still some on AOL that I have not had a chance to get. If you are mailing to us you must use a riders name and the proper route in order for us to know who and where they are. BAKONE@aol.com may not reach us on the trip. Please use the email form on the web site.

It seems that we have reached the point where most riders have decided that they can make it from here. This point comes usually because of some happening along the way. Lake Wilson was the point this year. From this point on the riders have more fun because they don't have the worry of "Can I Make It?"

More Tomorrow.
