Wednesday

Click for Map My day started with a BAK breakfast served by the Knights of Columbus in Ellsworth. The church is located just one block from the school and was easy to get to the delightful breakfast. There were young boys serving, you sat down and they brought the food and drinks. Pretty Nice for a change. The evening before the ambassadors from Ellsworth served hamburgers, beans and chips for dinner.

A few miles down the road many riders took a short off the hard surface road to Mushroom Rock State Park--a pleasant and restful place with the rocks as scenery. Then back through Carniero to the highway and on to Brookville, the home of the Brookville Hotel, a famous old time hotel that has some of the best fried chicken with all the trimmings, along with home made ice cream that you can't find anywhere. And then to Salina, where I left the Krazy route and tried to catch the Bubbly route about 40 miles north.

Along the Way Norma called and told me that the stop in Bennington again was so far the highlight of the trip. I wonder why she always gets to go to Bennington? Lunch today for me was in Miltonville where the restaurant should be on the Four Star List and would be if BAK had anything to do with it. Tonight I will be in Clay Center with the Bubbly Route. Usually the group that I start with is the group that I prefer to be with and so tonight I am back with that group. The other day Sherry McKee (Another BAK Director) called to tell me about a seven foot long snake that someone brought to the school on the Krazy route and they had to call 911 to get it removed. I asked for the facts last night and received many statements Cheryl Medders said that they thought it was a bull snake because when Gaylen Medders approached in his RED shirt the snake reared and swelled out and started to hiss quite loudly. The sheriff captured the snake and removed it.

Continued tomorrow.

SPECIAL!
Sherry McKee's Report

This is Sherry speaking. After reading Larry's version of the snake story, it seems to me that the whole thing is getting blown way out of proportion. For your information, I told Larry that the snake was six foot long. Larry's now telling everybody that it was a seven footer. I was wondering why I was continually asked by the Amusing route just how long seven feet was. Larry is stretching the story. I don't know, but by the end of this trip, I'll just bet you that the snake story will evolve to an eight foot Anaconda....and if I have anything to do with it, that Anaconda will be coiled around and putting the big squeeze on Larry Christie.

The "Amusing" route stayed in Lincoln last night, and I have to tell you they did themselves proud with the baked potato bar they prepared for us at the school, along with a breakfast burrito this morning. We had ice cream with sliced strawberries for dessert....can you top that Larry? Also, today in Abilene, Cub Scout Pack 67 is making us root beer floats with homemade baked goods. I'm eating like the bikers, and I'm not even riding. My shorts are tighter. Will have to hit the bike path when I get home to Salina and work all of this off.

Everybody I have visited with is having a great BAK. I have only had a couple of whiners, so I sent them to the Krazy route and let Cheryl and Gaylen deal with them. When I say "wish you were here", I really mean it, because there couldn't be a nicer bunch of people than those on Biking Across Kansas this year. See you down the road!
