June 10 Report

Tuesday June 10--Special Report

This Is from Kristina Hilboldt - Age 13 from Derby, Ks:

After four days on the Biking Across Kansas, I've done many things. On the way to Goodland, it was just one disaster after another! We missed the highway, the CB radio started smoking, we got a flat tire, and many other things.

On the start day, it was very windy. On the way to the start, my mother lost her tire off the top of the car and lost her quick release nut. Both my mother and I got dehydrated. I was so sick that I had to get sagged in.

When we visit the small towns of Kansas, it seems like everyone is very old. You get the feeling that when they die, the town will die off too. Most of the towns only have a little grocery store and one pay phone.

On the BAK, I've learned how to draft, how to get up hills, and how to conserve my energy. I've also learned that when it's really windy, you can spit all the way across the road!
