Across Kansas

5:00 PM CDT, Hoxie, Kansas

It was another beautiful sunny day, typical of Kansas in June, with light southery winds and highs in the mid-80s.

Cyclists on the Bedazzled route rode 65 miles from Atwood and turned south toward their destination at Hoxie. They are spending the night at the Hoxie High School. They were greeted upon arrival by a city-sponsored information tent which provided cold drinks, maps and Hoxie souvenirs, along with the most important information for bikers, namely where the restaurants and ice cream stands were located. The biggest challenge for the Bedazzled cyclists was the 10 mph southerly headwinds that increased steadily throughout the afternoon.

A dinner will be served at the high school this evening, with the highlight being a "make-your-own" ice cream sundae. The cyclists will also be treated to a showing of the movie "Spyhard" courtesy of the City of Hoxie.

After a breakfast served by the Colby swim club, cyclists on both the Adorable and the Karefree routes started out from Colby together, diverging at Selden to continue to their respective destinations of Norton and Lenora. At Jennings, a Czech community, the Adorable cyclists were treated to Kolaches, a filled pastry. They continued on to Norton for tonight's stay.

The Karefree riders made their way along K-9 to Lenora, passing through New Almelo, paralleling the beautiful North Fork of the Solomon River. With a population of only 324, we'll more than double the population of Lenora!

An update on the computer problems; we're encouraged to report that with the help of the Colby city manager, some able technicians are working on the problem and we hope to be up and running with the digital photos by tomorrow evening. On the positive side, our web computer is doing well and we're having no problems connecting to the Internet.
