Director's Report, June
8
On Monday I left the Acceptable
Route at the Junction of 183 and met up with the Bizarre Route at Rush
Center. It proved to be an interesting stop. At the four corners of that
intersection are three eating establishments. One of those restaurants
had a sign asking for the bikers not to loiter on their premises. While
the others had fresh pie and plenty of hospitality to make up for the
lack of it at the one place. The bikers proceeded down 96 highway to Great
Bend where arrangements had been made to use the field house.
The Great Bend Tribune hosted
an excellent meal at a nearby school and provided each entrant with a
copy of the newspaper with an article about Biking Across Kansas. Their
part of the stay was very pleasant. Thank You Great Bend Tribune. This
morning I left and proceeded south to join with the Komfy Route as they
made their way to Hutchinson. Lunch was in Quivera wildlife preserve.
On the way to the sleeping
quarters Harley's the local bicycle shop provided a rest stop at their
store with Ice Cream. We are staying in their new sports complex that
has three gyms, swimming and air-conditioning. The Cosmosphere is offering
half price tickets to Biking Across Kansas entrants. Our stay here in
Hutchinson should be a pleasant one as usual. As some of you know the
caps with the 25th logo have been a great hit. Selling out on all three
routes in just a few minutes after they were introduced. More have been
ordered and will be picked up tomorrow in Topeka. Ordering additional
jerseys may be more of a problem. We are looking into what the minimum
number we would have to order and what the cost would be. More information
on that later.
