WEDNESDAY JUNE 12, 1996
This report will be in several parts all short I hope. First My report for today my birthday. I have been hugged many times today all by very pretty ladies and have had my hand shook by the gentlemen in the groups. After a very nice breakfast served in the high school in Mankato I proceeded to Jewell for the first of it seems many stops today. In Jewell I visited the antique store the general store and took several pictures one is of the robbery alarm. Next stop was in Randall for refreshments at the B & B restaurant. Then to Jamestown where the bitty baseball organization was serving at the field several of our people played baseball and some seemed quite good. After that I had to stop at a rest stop in Kackley by a very small and quite young girl who was selling drinks and popcorn. then to Norway where the city had a rest stop in the community center. Next stop was Scandia where they were serving food also. I don't think that the evening meal needs to be very large for me.
We heard early this morning that the High School in Concordia was without electricity and started to move everyone from the H.S. To the middle school where they would share the facility with the Adorable folks. Later I learned that the school would be setting up portable lights in the gym and in the shower areas so that we wouldn't suffer from overcrowding. Here in Belleville I was greeted by the sign saying that Belleville was Proud of Larry Christie-- a bit much, but nice.
It seems that the participants are all having a very good time and few to none are complaining about anything.

Gaylen Medders, Leader for the Karefree Route has volunteered to write something so here he is:
The Karefree Route for the '96 BAK is doing quite well in ever respect. The weather has been just great and might be setting a record for the longest period with great riding weather. The temperature has not been hot or windy. Just great for riding your bicycle across the state. We didn't even have rain in Beloit, like the last time. The moral has been just fine.
The Karefree Route had the large BAK cow face ('95 BAK logo) for the half way road marking this year. What a Kodak moment!
John Hobbs, Great Plains Bicycle Shop, has not been able to stay with the Karefree route very much. So far no major problems have developed for the riders. Just the usual broken spokes, flat tires and minor repairs.
Just a uneventful BAK '96 for the Karefree route.
