What is Biking Across Kansas?
It's fun and easy to Bike Across Kansas--you'll go home with many fond memories of Kansas. It's amazing to see the large number of roadside attractions, if one just takes the time to stop!
The sole purpose of Biking Across Kansas is to promote bicycling and the State of Kansas. People from all over the United States register for BAK each year, plus many Kansans that will be seeing their home state up close for the first time.
As one of our riders said, "I came away impressed by the people of rural Kansas and their communities." From the mayor of Elkhart, shaking hands at the ride's start...a visit with a 103-year old gentlemen in a Meade nursing home... watching a little girl outside Protection counting bicycles with pencil and paper at the end of a farm lane...eating at the Red Barn in Harper...to walking the Yellow Brick Road on Sedan's main street.
Real people, proud of their homes, families and livelihoods. Only eight days on a bicycle, but great memories to last a lifetime, pedaling the back roads of Kansas. This is what Biking Across Kansas is about.
