BAK Director's Report: June 12

Here we are Monday June 12th, and that happens to be the birthday of Larry Christie, BAK Director. Everywhere he goes, people are singing "Happy Birthday" to him. Larry started his morning by taking a short side trip north of Ashland to the county lake. He had been told that the lake was about 10 miles north so he drove about 15 miles and never did find the lake but the scenery was worth the trip. There were canyons and bluffs; both red and white in color, with open range where the cows had the right of way, and they knew it! He also saw two antelope not far away.

After this little excursion, he went to Sitka for Breakfast and ordered a small breakfast of two eggs hash browns and sausage with home made toast. When the order came he had three eggs a very large sausage and a mounting of hash browns along with half a loaf of toast that was buttered on both sides! Really good but more than he could eat.

The temperature this morning on the Alluring route was 57 degrees, and now at 2:30, it is about 85 degrees! Most of the riders have arrived (into Coldwater) and now are cleaning up getting ready to go for dinner later.

The Kolossal Route is arriving into Medicine Lodge this afternoon. What a beautiful ride they had through the Gyp Hills - lots of canyons, buttes, boulders and an enormous number of cedar trees.

It looks like the clouds have finally lifted, the rain has stopped and the sun is shining. A perfect day! And the 5-day forecast is predicting more of the same.

The City of Medicine Lodge will be re-enacting the Peace Treaty this evening, along with the appearance of Carrie Nation and her hatchet. The Stockade Museum will also be open to the riders and the local businesses will be open this evening . What a fun time it will be in Medicine Lodge!
